Often many of us wonder why we have two eyes?
Here is why it is?
Despite having two eyes and also having wearing a spectacle dispensed by highly qualified professionals, some of us struggle or have difficulties in performing certain aspects of daily activities. Some of us even get rejected from government posts like Police personal, Navy etc. And many children tend to be labelled as poor performers do you even know why?
Here is the answer
Vision is beyond 20/20 – 20/20 or the smallest line of Vision chart only indicates sharpness or clarity of vision, but Vision is a most complex metaphysical process. Spectacles only correct the clarity part of vision called visual acuity. Beyond this we need to have good ability to perceive depth (3-D vision), colour vision, good eye teaming (Binocular vision), peripheral awareness, good focusing ability, and good co-ordination of other sense organs (Intersensory integration).
Studies have shown that any deficiency or reduced ability of any functions or injury impacting the eye muscles ranging from weaknesses to paralyzed eye muscle in severe state results in lack of co-ordination between eye and brain. This ocular problem is categorized as Binocular vision dysfunction. It can affect or lead to poor reading, writing, bumping into objects because of poor 3-D vision and so on, thereby, and affecting the quality of life.
According to American academy of Optometry, 80% of school going children grade 3 and above have NSBVA a form of Binocular vision dysfunction which affects their reading resulting in negative impact on education.
Studies have also shown that 40% of children diagnosed to have Learning disability are misdiagnosed but they have binocular vision dysfunction.
